Unfortunately, the activity of human beings has taken its toll not only on the environment but also on the human race. During production procedure of the olive oil (from the harvest to the oil mills) the olive leaves are considered to be waste. According to research, over 150.000 tons of olive leaves are discarded annually in Greece.
Liofyllo takes advantage of this agricultural waste that derives exclusively from human activity and creates an innovative, eco-friendly material.
This material derives from a great variety of olive leaves and biodegradable and/or bio-based adhesives. It is used by the SCE Liofyllo to manufacture two types of panels. Rule number one for the team is to attain its goals via eco-friendly production and to have green end products. The panels have the potential to be applied to a wide range of products. Until now, Welia panel is used for premium packaging boxes, thereby adding value to green-and not only- products.
In addition, Liofyllo is in perfect harmony with the principles of circular economy. It processes panels that are destroyed during the production and reuses them as raw material to create unique pieces of art.
The products work as special souvenirs, awards, memorabilia, and works of art. They are an alternative form of art, culture, material and ecology.
“If you deconstruct Greece, you will in the end see an olive tree, a grapevine, and a boat remain.
That is, with as much, you reconstruct her.”
