Imagine a world where rising seas swallow entire cities, scorching heatwaves make the land uninhabitable and storms leave nothing but destruction in their wake. These are not scenes from a science fiction movie – this is the reality we will face, if we do not act now. The Paris Agreement is our last line of defense against climate catastrophe. It represents humanity’s commitment to keeping global temperatures at safe levels and protecting our future. Every country, every citizen and every business has a responsibility to support it.
Adopted in 2015 by 195 countries, the Paris Agreement aims to limit global temperature rise to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, with efforts to keep the increase to 1.5°C.
Yet, President Trump’s decision, immediately after his re-election, to withdraw the United States from the Agreement sends a message that short-term economic gain is worth more than the survival of our planet. However, the truth is different. Nations investing in the green economy are creating thousands of new jobs, while those clinging to fossil fuels are falling behind. Renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and a circular economy are not luxuries – they are the only path to a healthy, strong and resilient society.

There is no doubt that the Paris Agreement is not perfect. Some countries lag behind, others fail to fully meet their commitments and there is a need for greater transparency and stronger enforcement mechanisms. Yet, abandoning the effort due to its shortcomings is like deserting a ship in the middle of a storm. Instead of turning our backs on the Agreement, we must strengthen it, evolve it and demand greater action from our governments.
The U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement is a step backward in the global fight against climate change. As inhabitants of this planet, we have a responsibility to support and reinforce the Agreement, addressing challenges and promoting sustainable and green development for present and future generations.
So, the question is simple: will we remain spectators or will we take action for our future?
