The ROMA-GEM (2025-1-ES02-KA220-YOU-000357478) is a 14-month EU-funded project under the Erasmus+ program. It enhances the potential of Roma girls through knowledge, mentorship and resources. It fosters collaboration between Roma youth, educators, NGOs, businesses and authorities to improve their opportunities.
As Maya Angelou once said, “Every time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women.”
The ROMA-GEM project embodies this philosophy by striving to empower one of the most marginalized groups in Europe: young Roma women. Facing deep-rooted discrimination, social exclusion, and economic disadvantage, these women often lack access to education, employment, and entrepreneurial opportunities. Their double burden of discrimination —as Roma and as women places them at an even greater disadvantage within their own communities and society.
Objectives
The ROMA-GEM project promotes active youth participation and social and ecological entrepreneurship through the empowerment of young Roma women.
Specifically, it:
- Develops participants’ skills in creating innovative and sustainable solutions based on the principles of social and green entrepreneurship.
- Cultivate initiative and responsibility through the practical application of business ideas and participation in experiential activities.
- Promotes the active participation of young Roma women in local and European communities, reducing social exclusion and strengthening their integration.
- Improves environmental awareness and sustainability by training participants in the use of green practices.

Impact
The ROMA-GEM project will have a significant impact at the local, regional and European levels, benefiting both the participating organizations and the wider community. By emprowering Roma young women and fostering sustainable entrepreneurship, the project will contribute to reducing youth unemployment and social exclusion within Roma communities.
